March 2006
- March 13 - OQO, makers of the first Ultra Mobile PC, the Model 01+, announce they are changing their focus to the enterprise market.
- March 13 - TechDigest.tv mentions/announces ECS H70 Tablet UMPC
- March 9 - Official Microsoft announcement regarding Project Origami/Ultra Mobile PCs, Week 3 teaser goes live with photos, information.
- March 6 - Information leaked (or rather found) on Intel’s UMPC site.
- March 2nd - Week 2 teaser goes live on OrigamiProject.com. Intel launches their teaser on UMPC.com with date that lines up with IDF.
February 2006
- February 25th - March 1st - Infamous Digital Kitchen video is found and posted. Mainstream media began to comment on Origami.
- February 24th - OrigamiProject.com mentioned on Slashdot.
- February 23rd - “Live Date” of OrigamiProject.com. Week 1’s teaser goes live. jkOnTheRun first to post about it. It’s later posted on Digg.com and OrigamiProject.com gets more hits in one day than Microsoft expected in the two weeks leading up to CeBIT.
- February 9 - Is this a picture of Samsung’s offering? No, but it generated a lot of buzz.
- February 8 - Samsung announces they will collaborate with Intel on an “Ultra Mobile PC” device.
January 2006
- Microsoft hires creative agency to work on viral campaign. Decision made to start it two weeks prior to CeBIT
December 2005
- Vague buzz about a new portable device that may fall somewhere between a PDA and a notebook or Tablet PC. Could this device be running some kind of Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system, or will it be a larger form factor of the Nokia 770 (or sequel).
- Microsoft’s Origami team decide on doing a “buzz/viral marketing campaign” about CeBIT announcement
September 2005
- September 27 - OQO announces the Model 01+, an upgrade to the Model 01. Changes include increased RAM memory, increased hard drive size, Firewire and USB 2.0 ports, integrated speaker, ambient light sensor, and screen rotation.
April 2005
- April 24 - At WinHEC, Bill Gates talks about a “Ultra Mobile 2007″ device that will cost less than $1000, weigh less than two pounds, have a built-in camera for video conferencing and multimedia, as well as multimedia playback capabilities. He does not consider it a replacement for a normal PC or laptop. For more information, read the InformationWeek.com article.

- Bill Mitchell (Vice President of the Microsoft Mobile Platforms Division) asked Otto Berkes to rejoin as an Architect
January 2004
- At the CES show in Las Vegas, OQO shows off a PDA-sized computer running Windows, called the Model 01. They announce it will be available in the Fall of 2004. BargainPDA.com has an article about it.
